Code, Bing Ling Baang Laang Asia

Code is an instrumental electronic jazz fusion band formed in 2021 in Hong Kong. Consisting of guitarist ZiTi, drummer Gill Mok, bassist Maka and sound designer + keyboard Loisey.

Influence by bands like Athletic Progression, Toe, Mouse on the Keys, Now vs Now, and Yussef Kamaal, their free-flowing peculiar composition featuring tense, thorough drumming, dynamic guitar interplay, versatile tone and splendid bass-line, bizarre note choices from the keyboard combine with cinematic of modular synth sound design and the odd timing arrangement defining particular style.

The group first performed at MacPherson stadium during the pandemic in Sep 2021, followed by a single release, ‘Brunch’. They have gained the hong kong local band and jazz scene’s interest after several gigs. Code got invited to one of the biggest outdoor jazz festivals in Hong Kong, in 2022. They released their first debut album ‘Daddy’s Secret Folder’ in 2023, before the biggest outdoor music festival Clockenflap held, while aboard with bands such as; FKJ, Arctic Monkeys, Mono, Milet, Wu-Tang Clan, etc.

“Sporting a polished book of original arrangements that feature heavy synth and guitar sounds, antsy rhythmic modulations and unabashedly dissonant chord progressions. For those who feel that the metal and jazz scenes in hong kong have reached a plateau, Code may be the antidote.”

As Hong Kong's international music and arts festival, Clockenflap 2023, returns after four years, several local bands have been eagerly awaiting their debut on the Clockenflap stage.

AMONG THE DOZENS OF HOME-GROWN ACTS ON THE BILL IS JAZZ-METAL-FUSION QUINTET CODE, PRAISED BY ONE POST CRITIC AS “ONE OF THE MOST INTRICATE BANDS TO COME UP DURING THE PANDEMIC ERA”
